Internship Description
The Phoenix Conservatory of Music (PCM), a 2017 National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Award Recipient, provides a continuum of high quality music education and experiences to hundreds of students annually, with programs ranging from introductory level in-house education programs and after school programs to more advanced private lessons and the most prestigious college prep programs for contemporary music education in the state: The Berklee College of Music’s City Music Network and P.U.L.S.E. programs.

The Phoenix Conservatory of Music’s, located on I17 and Peoria in Phoenix, AZ's mission is to unleash the power of music by providing high quality music education and experiences to students and families that is affordable and accessible. We fill our mission by providing community education programs and classes, after school programs for at risk populations, private music lessons, ensembles and a unique college preparatory program in affiliation with the Berklee City Music Network.

The Phoenix Conservatory of Music is looking for an of individual to help with a weekly clean up and maintenance of our educational facilities and equipment.

Weekly responsibilities will include:

Putting Instruments Away, Cleaning Instruments, Pulling Instruments from storage and/or putting them away, Pulling Event Supplies or Putting them away, Checking Inventory of Sound Equipment including Microphones and Cables; winding and storing properly, Assist with Set up and Striking Stage as needed, Assist in Repair broken or non working microphone and quarter inch cables, oProperly inventory all cables at the beginning and ending of each quarter, Teach students and staff how to properly wind and store cables while not in use. Changing out light bulbs and other basic facility maintenance tasks, Checking and Maintaining Piano Benches, Moving Desks/Furniture as needed, Assisting with Physical Movement of Instruments, Library Maintenance: Checking in/out books, Scanning books into system, Putting books away where they go and General Facility Clean Up: dusting, straightening classrooms, lesson rooms, and front areas, vacuming lesson rooms, cleaning white boards, trash, spot mopping and cleaning bathrooms as needed, clean microwave, refrigerator, putting office and storage supplies/inventory away, washing tables, and helping to make the facility inviting and safe for students and parents to enjoy.


Skills/Requirements
Individuals need to have a passion for music, be able to work in a community setting around families and children, be able to climb ladders, lift up to 40 lbs, and move gear and tables. Individuals must be able to pass a background check, have a strong work ethic and be self-motivated. We are a small but mighty team.

Individuals must commit to being a peer leader, mentor, and model appropriate professional behavior and character traits, not limited to but including:

o Being on time

o Calling in when not able to attend with at least 24 hours’ notice

o Assisting younger students and providing positive, respectful, encouraging interactions in a safe environment with good judgement

o Assisting PCM office staff as directed

o Having high personal expectations and the work ethic to back that up

o Taking constructive direction well when given from PCM Teaching Artists, Music Mentors and Staff

o Using appropriate language

o Dressing appropriately

o Being a model in the community in regards to behaviors and attitudes; including social media

o Following all guidelines set forth in the volunteer handbook

o Making PCM Staff aware of any problems or concerns in a professional way and timely manner

Pay Comments:

Unpaid Internship for Spring 2019, 15-20 hours per week; working into a paid position starting Summer 2019. One hour lessons music lessons included.
