Alexander & Baldwin Sugar Museum
You can be instrumental in educating Maui's students about the rich history and the significance of the sugar industry and plantation life on our island. Tour Guides (docents) lead groups of elementary school students on informative tours of the Sugar Museum. This beloved program, which began in 1990, fulfills DOE requirements and provides an important cultural learning opportunity for our keiki (young children).
Current schedule is Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9:30-11:30 a.m., September through May. This is an on-call and seasonal opportunity--You choose the Tuesday or Thursday you would like to volunteer! Training provided.
Benefits of volunteering at the Sugar Museum include: Mileage stipend, museum passes, discount in Plantation Store, appreciation luncheon.
Thank you!

The Alexander & Baldwin Sugar Museum is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and presenting the history and heritage of the sugar industry and the multi-ethnic plantation life which it engendered.
The story of sugar on Maui is told at the Alexander & Baldwin Sugar Museum. We are the primary resource for information on the history of the sugar industry and its cultural heritage. We are located across from the 1902 Hawaiian Commercial & Sugar Co. mill in what was once the thriving plantation town of Puunene. The museum is housed in one of the few historic buildings remaining from that era and contains exhibits about one of the most significant and influential periods in the Islands’ history. It presents information about the sugar industry, depicts sugar’s influence on the development of Maui’s water resources, and describes plantation community life and the multi-ethnic immigrants who came here to work for the plantations. It also features displays on the inner workings of a sugar mill.
We'll work with your schedule.
