5 people are interested
We seek to mobilize the growing adult population (age 50+) to make a difference in the lives of young people.
Volunteers are needed to serve as litearcy tutors to improve the literacy skills of struggling young readers in K-3rd grade at elementary schools in Boston and Revere.
The specific schools in need of volunteers are the following:
Trotter Innovation School (Dorchester)
Martin Luther King Jr. K-8 School (Dorchester)
Mildred Ave. K-8 School (Mattapan)
Young Achievers Science and Math Pilot K-8 School (Mattapan)
Garfield Elementary School (Revere)
The Hill Elementary School (Revere)
Whelan Elementary School (Revere)
Volunteer Literacy Tutors help children improve their literacy skills, have monthly training opportunities, commit to serve 5 hours per week, and see measurable progress while directly improving a child's reading skills and self-esteem.

Mission Statement
Literations drives educational equity through experienced community volunteers empowering young readers for lifelong learning.
Description
Literations is a nonprofit literacy organization dedicated to improving the reading proficiency of young students in 1st through 4th grade in under-resourced communities using a proven literacy model and trained volunteer coaches.
Nearly 70% of students who live in our communities are not reading at grade level when they enter the fourth grade. Literations is squarely positioned to address the urgent need for individualized support given the growing opportunity gaps for young students.
Our Unique Model
- Our exclusive focus on students in 1st-4th grade results from the growing body of research that indicates this is the juncture that has the most impact on a child’s lifelong success.
- Providing more time to practice reading skills with trained volunteer coaches using a structured curriculum provides students with the skills and confidence to succeed.
