If you have a big heart and strong arms, we need you! Join our pool of volunteers to help prepare a welcoming home for newly arriving refugee and immigrant families who have been forced to flee their homes and countries. We are especially in need of volunteers who can move heavier furniture items. If you can’t lift heavy items but would still like to help, there are many other tasks including organizing household items, putting bedsheets on, and making the apartment feel like home. Apartment Set-Up Assistants help as often as their schedule allows--typically ranging from about once a week to a few times a year. Setups often take place on weekdays during normal work hours, so having daytime availability is ideal.

About World Relief DuPage/Aurora

Location:

191 S. Gary Avenue, Carol Stream, IL 60188, US

Mission Statement

At World Relief Chicagoland, we come alongside refugees and other immigrants in vulnerable situations as they rebuild their lives in the United States. For over 40 years, we’ve been welcoming immigrants and refugees across Chicagoland, starting with refugee resettlement in Chicago and DuPage County (1979), and later in Aurora (1999). For decades, we have empowered churches, community organizations and people like you to adapt to the challenges of the moment for the sake of refugees. As needs have increased in recent years, we have expanded our work beyond refugees to include all immigrants in vulnerable situations. Today, World Relief Chicagoland is part of a national network of offices through which over 400,000 immigrants and refugees have been welcomed into this country.

Description

Our work consists of refugee resettlement, community-based ESL (English as a Second Language), mental health services, and immigrant legal services, employment counseling, and more. We work with volunteers from all walks of life from college students to retirees. If you want to help the refugees and immigrants in your community, we can help you connect with them.
