We all want to belong yet people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) still have less opportunities for social interaction and can feel more isolated. A recent study shows that while people without disabilities can have hundreds of friends and acquaintances outside of immediate family, people with disabilities are often lucky to have a handful.

We would like to bridge the gap and help people with IDD find a place in their community. Volunteers are matched to a person with IDD and outings are based on their interests- - examples could be going out to lunch or dinner, going to a sporting event, taking an art class or going to a museum or festival.

There are so many things to do that don't cost a lot of money. We like to kept the cost to about $10 or $15 per outing and each person pays their own way. The time commitment would be three to four hours once a month. We are asking for a one year commitment, but many of our volunteers have enjoyed the friendships they have made and have continued volunteering long beyond that first year.

Providing a ride for the person you are matched with is one more way you can be of services.
