At the Social Services Agency's Thomas L. Berkley (North Oakland( Self-Sufficiency Center, hundreds of customers pass daily through the doors of the waiting rooms. As a Community Ambassador, you will play a crucial role in helping customers feel welcome and at ease. Gain experience with customer service and communication and take a first-hand look at what goes on in a fast-paced government agency. Ambassadors assist in a number of ways: greet clients and provide directional assistance; facilitate services on behalf of elderly or physically impaired clients by notifying supervisors; assist clients with operating in-house phones, kiosks and photocopiers; support the Agency's customer satisfaction survey project; manage roving reading materials cart and distribute children's books; and provide assistance with on-site events or presentations.
Minimum participation is 1 shift (2-4 hours) weekly for 3 months. Shifts are scheduled between 8:30-4:30, Mondays-Fridays. Candidates must be age 18 or older who are not current clients of SSA receiving cash benefits or current employees of SSA or the County of Alameda. Confidence in public interaction and customer service is desirable.
All prospective Community Ambassadors must attend an orientation, undergo a fingerprint background screening (paid for by the Agency), and be photographed for an ID badge.
The next orientation is Saturday, October 1, 2016 from 10:15-12:45 at the 81st Ave Branch Library (community meeting room), 1021 81st Ave, Oakland 94621.
Please contact Andrea Wong, coordinator at 510-271-9163 or firstname.lastname@example.org to confirm availability of position and attendance at orientation.
