Craft Volunteers

Like working with kids? Want to volunteer but can't commit to a set schedule? The San Mateo County History Museum has a great volunteer opportunity for you!

Five or six times a year we hold family craft days based on a theme (Victorian Days, Maritime Day, Holiday Traditions from Around the World). We need volunteers to help us operate the craft tables. You don't have to have artistic talent--the crafts are geared towards elementary school children so they are very easy to learn (directions are provided).

Craft days are usually held on Saturdays, however there are occasional Sunday events. You may choose which events you'd like to volunteer for, and we only require a 2 hr shift minimum per event.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Historical Association is to provide meaningful learning experiences for the county's residents and guests with special attention devoted to children's programs.

Description

The San Mateo County Historical Association operates three historical sites: the San Mateo County History Museum in Redwood City, the Woodside Store in Woodside, and the Sanchez Adobe in Pacifica

The History Museum is located in the old San Mateo County Courthouse in downtown Redwood City. Built in 1910, the History Museum features professionally designed exhibit galleries and is, itself, a historical work of art. The museum approaches history in a unique, topical manner by looking at the county's natural resources, transportation, suburban life, commerce, and the diversity of its people.

Our exhibits give students an opportunity for experiential learning. Teachers tell us that, through hands-on experiences, students are much more likely to learn, appreciate, and integrate historical information into their current lives.

We also offer an exciting calendar of public programs including workshops, lectures, family days, and preschool story time.
