ORGANIZATION: The Love Yourself Project

  • 22 people are interested

Love Yourself Project is looking a grant writer and some administration duties/social media, and volunteer coordinator and ambassadors.

The Love Yourself Project is a 501(c)(3) non-profit arts and education organization providing community programs which promote self-awareness, self-acceptance, self-esteem and skill building. It is our belief that with a strong relationship to the self, every individual can contribute to a future with loving regard for all living beings and the environment.

Beginning Nov 19, 2010, the Love Yourself team took to the streets and subways of New York City greeting people with messages of kindness and love, distributing over 500 "Love Yourself" stickers and hand-folded hearts, and encouraged people to engage in a conversation about self-love. Since then, similar events have been held in Pakistan, Paris, Luxembourg, West Africa, Florida, Netherlands, Massachusetts, Australia, Iceland, England and Stockholm. We currently have distributed over 750,000 stickers.

In 2011, the Project began working with children at The Earth School in NYC. Team members helped youngsters (ages 5-12) make origami hearts and facilitated discussions about what it means to 'love yourself’. The origami hearts were featured in the "1,000 Hearts"Exhibition.

To create the "1,000 Hearts"exhibition, the team collected 1,000 hand-folded origami hearts from people all around the world. Participants shared something they love about themselves and folded the paper into a heart shape. The hearts and messages were presented both visually and aurally. Messages from the hearts are continuously being posted via Twitter. We just celebrated our 5th year anniversary at BAM FISHER 2015 with 5,000 hearts of self love messages. Help us continue our campaign for 2020 with 10,000 Hearts.

Mission Statement

The Love Yourself Project aspires to engaging, empowering, and encouraging underserved youths around New York City, through art-based workshops, to reach their fullest potentials.

Description

We are a community of artists invested in the emergence of a new future--a future filled with new leaders who support the communities which they live in; a future modeled on the belief that progress and change start on an individual level, and when nurtured, impacts the lives of others in their communities and can spread around the world.

On Nov 19, 2010, the Love Yourself team took to the streets and subways of New York City, distributing over 500 "Love Yourself" stickers and hand-folded origami hearts, and encouraged people to engage in a conversation about self-love.

Since that day, Love Yourself Project events have taken place in schools, libraries, museums, galleries, parks, local businesses. The project is catching on to other countries around the globe.

We live in a rich society that is deprived of basic value of oneself. The Love Yourself Project is committed to the education of all people to help them be their full potential.

Love Yourself founder Michael Mut owned and operated Michael Mut Gallery on Avenue C in an effort to bring culturally and socially relevant art into the community as a source of empowerment and inspiration from 2009 to 2014.

With the help of others and their commitment to changing the way we think about ourselves, we challenge you to join our mission. Please contact Michael Mut at michael@loveyourselfproject.org, and visit us online at: www.loveyourselfproject.org.

And don't forget....LOVE YOURSELF!
