Companionship Volunteering
Compassionate Care, One Day at a Time

Do you live in the Hillsboro or Forest Grove area? We have volunteer opportunities in hospice near you! Are you a good listener? Maybe you play an instrument or enjoy listening to music? Maybe you understand the importance of just being and how visiting those who feels how long an hour is brings joy. We have hospice opportunities that support your intention of making a positive difference in the lives of others.

Your presence and efforts bring the opportunity for living in the moment and celebration.
Visits could be reading a story, watching "the big game," or listening to stories of the past. Your visits will go a long way to enhance the quality of life no matter the circumstance. Every volunteer has something special to contribute. Please contact me to see how your skills fit. *Please note - volunteers do no hands-on care.

Hospice Volunteers may do one or more of the following activities with people who need companionship:

  • be a loving presence
  • read
  • pet certified therapy visits
  • play music (with an instrument, phone/player or singing softly)
  • discuss shared interests (i.e. music, books, comics, sports, news, politics, etc)
  • play cards
  • hold the person's hand
  • sit vigil with persons without family or while the family takes a break
  • massage/reiki
  • write letters to loved ones for people
  • polish fingernails
  • be a compassionate presence - sometimes just having someone near who cares eases loneliness
  • and more. ...

Your gift of hospice companionship will come back to you many times over!

Hospice Care of the Northwest services the Portland and the greater Portland area (Multnomah, Clackamas and Washington Counties) and we have volunteer opportunities in your area that can work around your schedule. We provide all the training and orientation and you will be well-supported and greatly valued by the entire hospice team. Your time is always appreciated.

There are many ways to volunteer available. I look forward to hearing from you. For more information and upcoming trainings, please contact me at:
