San Diego International Sister Cities Association ("SanDISCA") is comprised of the leaders of our 16 Sister City organizations. We meet on 8/8/17 iat 6:30 PM n House of Pacific Relations - Room: Hall of Nations, Balboa Park. Also, on 9/12/17 at 5:30 PM in La Jolla. Our meetings are usually 2 hours in length. In 2018 we may begin to meet every other month. The Board members present their ideas and vote on important issues. The person who takes the Minutes is extremely important at these meetings. We need a talented, organized person who can transcribe their notes into draft Minutes. These Minutes become the history of our organization. Please contact us for more information about this position - and what it means to become a citizen diplomat and to connect San Diego to the world in the areas of culture, education, and economic development.

San Diego International Sister City Association (SanDISCA) connects San Diego people with its 16 sister cities around the world in 15 countries in 6 continents, in order to promote the world peace through mutual respect, understanding, and cooperation--one individual, one community at a time. SanDISCA and its all 16 sister cities achieve this mission by establishing a long term reciprocal two-way relationships between people-to-people in the communities through art, cultural, educational, sports, humanitarian, business, trade, and many other programs and exchanges.

Description

San Diego International Sister Cities Association, Inc. (SanDISCA) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and is an umbrella organization for San Diego’s 16 individual Sister Cities organizations. SanDISCA and its 16 individual Sister Cities organizations are all operated by 100% volunteers. Sister Cities International (SCI) located in Washington D.C. is a 501(c)(3) nonpartisan nonprofit serving for 545 U.S. sister cities, counties, and states with 2,121 partnerships in 145 countries on six continents. This SCI network unites tens of thousands of volunteers around the world as a common goal of being citizen diplomats. San Diegans joined the SCI network force in 1957 with Yokohama. Since then, San Diegans have created a total of 16 individual official Sister City Societies (SCS),(in order of their establishment): Yokohama, JAPAN (1957); Léon, MEXICO (1969); Cavite, PHILIPPINES (1969); Tema, GHANA (1976); Edinburgh, Scotland, UNITED KINGDOM (1977); Alcalá de Henares, SPAIN (1982); Jeonju, KOREA (1983); Taichung, TAIWAN (1983); Yantai, CHINA (1985); Perth, AUSTRALIA (1986); Vladivostok, RUSSIA (1991); Tijuana, MEXICO (1993); Campinas, BRAZIL (1995); Warsaw and Mazovia Province, POLAND (1996); Jalalabad, AFGHANISTAN (2004); Panama City, PANAMA (2015)
