MN Sinfonia performs several concerts each summer at the Lak

The professional Minnesota Sinfonia Orchestra seeks dedicated volunteers working to continue the Sinfonia's FREE-admission concerts and in-school education programs. Founded in 1989, the Sinfonia has a stellar reputation and holds the Charities Review Council "Seal of Approval" meeting all standards for administrative, policy, board, and accounting standards. Expenses for all Sinfonia programs are met with grant funding from corporate, government, and family foundations plus by contributions from more than 700 individual supporter households across the Minneapolis/Twin Cities area. The Sinfonia averages 30 concerts each year performed in easily accessible community locations such as the Basilica of Saint Mary, Metro State University, Lake Harriet Band Shell and Como Park. Plus the entire Orchestra travels to inner city schools to play another 30 concerts each year in school gyms and auditoriums, introducing kids to the magical experience of hearing and seeing classical music through the Sinfonia's unique "Music in the Schools" program. See our website to learn more, listen to music, view video clips and please contact us if you would like to learn more: www.mnsinfonia.org

Volunteers will attend concerts, assist with concert preparation setting up the information table, pass out programs, greet audience members, assist audience members as needed.

About Minnesota Sinfonia

Location:

Mission Statement

The mission of the Minnesota Sinfonia is to serve the musical and educational needs of the citizens of Minnesota, with primary emphasis given to families with young children, inner-city youth, seniors and those with limited incomes.

Description

Founded in 1989, the Minnesota Sinfonia is a unique organization with a unique philosophy: It is the only professional orchestra in the region to welcome children to every concert, to perform in accessible locations year-round and to offer all programs free of admission charges.

Education, along with top notch concerts, is a core component of the Sinfonia’s mission and programming. Our Music in the Schools program uses music as a catalyst to excite kids in K-6 public schools about learning core subjects. We serve 20 Minneapolis and St. Paul inner-city public schools each year, reaching an estimated 12,000 children. This program is supported entirely by individual contributions, corporate, foundation and government grants.

Quality, accessibility and education are the pillars of the Sinfonia’s philosophy with at least 60 free-admission concerts performed every year. The Sinfonia also tours to outstate Minnesota communities.

In addition, youth outreach programs include a Young Artist String Competition with the winners performing with the Sinfonia in concert. We sponsor a Junior Composer Competition with the winning composition being performed in a July Sinfonia concert where up to 40 student musicians also perform as part of our Youth Outreach Week.

The Minnesota Sinfonia is truly a unique community asset!
