Do you enjoy a small, friendly office environment? Are you highly self-directed and computer-savvy? Want a rewarding volunteer experience? Be a part of a non-profit organization dedicated to Walt Whitman's legacy as a clerical assistant!

Volunteer Opportunities

We are currently seeking volunteer clerical assistants all year round. The position involves filing, data entry, and general office duties. Must be comfortable working as part of a small team on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9 to 5pm, but can be flexible with hours on those days. Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) is highly desirable. You may email a resume and any inquiries to administrator@waltwhitman.org for more information.

Internships

High school seniors, college students, and recent graduates are invited to inquire about (unpaid) internships as a clerical assistant. Special projects may be assigned. A resume is required by email to administrator@waltwhitman.org with the subject line "Walt Whitman Internship". We welcome all majors and English and History majors are highly encouraged to apply.

Walt Whitman Birthplace Association is Walt Whitman’s voice today, celebrating the poet’s vision of democracy, diversity, and creativity. Our programs and exhibits educate the public on Whitman’s life and times, explore his contribution to our nation’s rich cultural heritage, and inspire poets and writers.

Description

Walt Whitman was born in Huntington, Long Island, New York, on May 31, 1819, the second of nine children. His ancestors and family had lived in the West Hills area of South Huntington for over one hundred and twenty five years. Walt Whitman’s Birthplace, a State Historic Site listed on the National Register of Historic Places, still stands and commemorates his life, spirit, and legacy.
