I Madonnari Italian Street Painting Festival
MAY 26, 27, 28, 2018 - XXXII Anniversario
Please join us for the 32nd Annual Santa Barbara I Madonnari Italian Street Painting Festival organized and hosted by the Children’s Creative Project.
I Madonnari, or street painters, transform the Mission plaza using pastels on pavement to create 150 vibrant and colorful, large scale images. We are proud to be the first to bring this romantic festival to the western hemisphere from our sister festival in Grazie di Curtatone, Italy. The festival benefits the Children's Creative Project, a nonprofit arts education program of the Santa Barbara County Education Office. The Project serves 50,000 children in more than 100 schools with visual and performing arts workshops and performances throughout Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties.
Festival hours are 10-6 daily. Admission is free.
We’re looking for bright and energetic volunteers to help in a number of areas including, Festival Hosts, The Italian Market, BBQ Grills, The Festival Store and Kids Square Area.

The Children’s Creative Project is a unique non-profit arts education organization that brings together young people and professional artists. This special interaction enables children to develop artistic perception, creative expression, aesthetic valuing and an understanding of artists, the creative process and historical and cultural arts heritage. The Children’s Creative Project is dedicated to the following:
- To provide arts experiences for children not normally exposed to the arts
- To include the visual and performing arts as an in-depth and comprehensive component of a child’s basic education
- To expand work opportunities for professional artists in the schools
- To develop funds to support arts education programs
At its inception in 1972, the Children’s Creative Project volunteer artists served 200 children at Franklin Elementary School in Santa Barbara. Today, the Project reaches more than 50,000 children annually in roughly 90 Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo county schools with resident artist workshops and performances by professional touring artists. Incorporated in 1974, the CCP is a program of the Santa Barbara Education Office.
