ORGANIZATION: Hyde Park Transitional Housing Project

  • 13 people are interested

Come be an essential part of our very lively organization with caring board members who will make you feel right at home and back your fundraising lead.

What you get to do is be apart of the team of creative "go to" people in putting together and running the Taste of Hyde Park, which is the main fundraiser.

You also get to bring your new ideas to board meetings, which are not drab at all. Even better, you get to put them into action.

It’s not a large time commitment. Our board meets on the third Monday of the month. The April weeks leading up to the Taste are a little busier, but we all chip in.

Here is the official job description:

The fundraising committee seeks ways of funding the ministry of the Project. Works on special events for the organization and solicits special collections within congregations, as well as encouraging donations or grants from individuals, corporations, foundations, businesses, or government sources. Leads and coordinates the Taste of Hyde Park.

Next Year will be our 13th Taste of Hyde Park so come help put it together. Tell us why you're a good fit for our board in an e-mail and your resume with relevant experience to HPTHP@Yahoo.com.

We mee the third Monday of the month at 7 pm. at a church in Hyde Park. I'll reply to your above e-mail with the address for the June meeting.

Mission Statement

The Hyde Park Transitional Housing Project (HPTHP) provides housing and a stable, supportive environment for up to two years for homeless families who are working on improving or developing the skills necessary to live independently. HPTHP partners with local congregations, organizations, and others, who provide volunteer mentors and essential financial support. The strength of HPTHP is in the positive relationship which develops between mentors and the families they are supporting.

Description

The Hyde Park Transitional Housing Project, based in Hyde Park and South Kenwood in Chicago, IL, but serving homeless families from the mid-south side of Chicago, provides housing, in market rate apartments, for up to two years, to homeless families that are motivated to gain the abilities to live independently. The adults in the family develop a plan to achieve the education, job skills, and other abilities needed to live independently. A team of two volunteer mentors work with the family for roughly one hour a week on actions in pursuit of the plan, most weeks of the year, for as long as the family is in our program (up to two years). The adult(s) in the client family, the mentors, and the Case Manager meet quarterly to update the plan.
