FAR Therapeutic Arts and Recreation is a nonprofit organization that provides creative arts therapy and recreation services for children and adults with cognitive, physical and/or emotional impairments.
We would like to extend an invitation to volunteers for Camp FAR Out, a two-week creative arts camp held in FAR’s main service site, First Presbyterian Church Birmingham. This camp is for our special needs campers and their siblings ages 3-16 and runs Monday through Friday, July 31st - August 11th from 9:00 - 11:30AM.
We are looking for energetic, fun, positive volunteers to be counselors who will be placed with a group of campers. Each day groups will rotate among fun-filled therapeutic activity sessions that include music, art and movement facilitated by our therapists. To cap off all of our wonderful activities, campers will have a public performance on the last day for their family and friends to enjoy.
All new volunteers will be interviewed and attend an mandatory orientation prior to camp. At the conclusion of camp, volunteers will be awarded approximately 35 - 40 hours of volunteer hours toward high school or college applications.

Description
FAR Therapeutic Arts and Recreation is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization providing a space for folks with special needs to enrich their lives. Founded in 1951, we work with clients of all ages, introducing them to new activities and experiences, helping them gain a deeper understanding of themselves and showing them new ways to communicate how they feel.
Through the dedication of our highly-trained staff and the support of partners and collaborating organizations throughout Metro Detroit, we offer music, art, dance/movement and recreational therapy for children and adults with a variety of special needs diagnoses. We go into schools in Wayne, Oakland and Macomb Counties to provide music, art, dance/movement and recreational therapy for students receiving special education services. We work to expose our clients to new avenues of expression which serve to improve how they relate and interact with their environments and families.
