Mission Statement

The mission of ADD is to nurture greater independence, positive work habits, and enhanced personal relationships for its members, while supporting caregivers and educating the community.

Description

Adults with Developmental Disabilities (ADD), founded in 1973, is an organization which offers developmentally disabled adults, eighteen years of age and older, professionally-directed services to enhance social and behavioral skills in community settings. ADD was formed because parents of children with developmental disabilities could not find a support system to guide their children to build independent lives after graduation from high school. Developmental disabilities that affect our members include autism, Down syndrome, Asperger's syndrome, learning disabilities and other disorders. The mission of ADD is to nurture greater independence, positive work habits, and enhanced personal relationships for its members, while supporting caregivers and educating the community. With support, many of our members can transition to independent lives, obtain employment, live in their own apartments or in supervised group homes, and have their own lives. ADD seeks to create public awareness and acceptance of the issues confronting our members with the goal to maximize members' abilities to live as full and independent lives as possible within their community. Currently, ADD provides services to over 140 members and over 100 caregivers and parents of members in Philadelphia and the surrounding suburban counties.
