Family Reentry J-Connect Youth Mentoring is a long-standing and unique mentoring program which has been serving youth involved or at risk for involvement with the Juvenile Justice system. Our mission is to enhance the resiliency of children through caring relationships and supportive interactions. One-to-one mentoring is provided on a community base model. Consistent mentor visits provide a positive adult-teen relationship which helps to foster positive development in vulnerable and at-risk youth.

Seeking adult volunteer mentors in the Greater Bridgeport, Norwalk & Stamford areas who can commit to giving 1.5 to 2 hours per week as a community based mentor.

Ongoing program support for mentors and opportunities for group activities are provided.

Mission Statement

Family Reentry Youth Programs provide cousnedling, case management and youth mentoring to vulnerable children and youth impacted by parental incaceration, family violence and crime. Services are committed to enhancing the resiliency of children through caring relationships and supportive family services.

Description

Family Reentry Youth Mentor Program provides supportive services to vulnerable youth through a one-to-one mentor match. Volunteer adults are screened, trained and matched to youth based on commonalities and interests. Match support is provided to mentors by program staff throughout the duration of the match.

J-Connect Mentoring offers support to youth involved with the juvenile justice system and who are in need of a strong positive role model. Community visits are scheduled weekly after school or on weekends, with a goal of spending 2 or more hours each week.

Youth Mentoring is a valuable tool in supporting teens who have been identified as at risk. Building a trusting and supportive relationship through mentoring has been linked to positive youth outcomes.
