PHA O2 breathe

The Pulmonary Hypertension Association's (PHA) Northeast Chapter seeks volunteers for a variety of duties for our upcoming O2 breathe Long Island Walk taking place at Heckscher Park on Sunday, October 23, 2016. To learn more about the O2breathe campaign and to register as a volunteer, go to www.O2breathe.org/LI or for more information about volunteering contact nyevents@phassociation.org or call (646) 571-6843.

Join hundreds of others to raise awareness and funds in support of the PHA mission. These events are aimed to raise important funds for research, education, advocacy, and patient services for all those touched by Pulmonary Hypertension. PHA is a young organization that is changing the history of an illness. From simple beginnings, PHA has evolved in size and complexity. While we have grown, PHA has stayed true to our roots and the vision and ingenuity of our founders. We continue to work every day to end isolation, provide education, involve our constituents in everything we do, and find a cure for pulmonary hypertension. www.PHAssociation.org

About Pulmonary Hypertension Association

Location:

261 Madison Ave., New York, NY 10016, US

Mission Statement

To find ways to prevent and cure pulmonary hypertension, and to provide hope for the pulmonary hypertension community through support, education, advocacy and awareness

Description

Pulmonary hypertension (PH) is high blood pressure in the vessels of the lungs and can lead to heart failure. There is no cure. In 1985 patients had a 50% chance of surviving 2.8 years past the date of diagnosis, but thanks to new treatments, prognosis is improving.

Research - PHA funds cutting edge research, committing more than $12 million to researchers looking for methods for early detection, new treatments to enhance and extend lives and ultimately a cure.

Support - PHA offers support groups across the country, online communities, a team of mentors who provide email-based support and a Patient to Patient Support Line.

Education - PHA delivers education via patients' computers and mailboxes and in face to face settings. Topics range from living with PH to insurance issues and everything in between. PH-treating medical professionals also benefit from an array of educational and networking opportunities provided by PHA.

Advocacy - PHA advocates for legislation that positively impacts the lives of PH patients and has secured significant federal funding for PH research and awareness initiatives.

Awareness - The voice of the PH community is built on the personal stories of thousands of patients, caregivers, friends and medical professionals. PHA provides resources to share stories online, with the media and in the community.
