As a mentor, you will help refugees learn English, teach them about life in American and help them become familiar with the Lincoln area. Assist them in meeting practical needs such as grocery shopping, going to the library, helping children with homework and using the bus system. Contact with a refugee or individual is set up between the mentor and client on a weekly basis. This position may include transportation if the volunteer feels comfortable and is authorized. Interested volunteers will be invited to attend a Volunteer Information Session that is will be scheduled with the Volunteer Coordinator at our office on 23 rd and O. Mentor Orientations are held monthly.
Requirements: Volunteers must pass a criminal background check. They must also provide a copy of a valid driver’s license and proof of auto insurance for a DMV check, if applicable. This position is looking for volunteers available any day of the week, on a weekly basis, and requires a 3-6 month commitment.
