The House of Ruth's Gateway Project is an Abuser Intervention Program that aims to increase the safety of victims of domestic violence by holding batterers accountable and teaching non-violent, relationship skills. Those accepted into the program are required to attend a weekly 90-minute group session for a total of 22 weeks. Groups for men are co-facilitated by a male/female team and are conducted 4 days each week.

Job Responsibilities

  • Conduct one-on-one phone calls with women who have been a victim of domestic violence and inform them of our services, resources, and the cycle of abuse
  • Complete a written documentation of each individual contacted.

Time Commitment

Three to four 2-3 hour shifts a month available during the day

Candidate Requirements

  • Fluent Spanish
  • Must be able to be empathetic towards victims but be cognizant of boundaries.
  • Good listening and note taking skills
  • Interviewing experience is a plus (but not required)
  • Dependability is a MUST for scheduling purposes.

Description

The House of Ruth Maryland was founded in May of 1977 by a coalition of women's organizations, religious groups, service providers, and elected officials to provide a safeohaven for victims of domestic violence and their children. In November of 1977, we opened Baltimore's first crisis shelter for these victims in a row house on North Calvert Street. Today the House of Ruth Maryland is recognized as one of the nation's most comprehensive domestic violence center and has a staff of more than ninety.
