Make a child's day a bit brighter. Help us provide clothing, toys, hygiene products, and a safe environment for women, mothers and children!
Tuesday-Saturday between 9am-1pm
One time or regular volunteers are helpful!
Location: 2272 San Pablo Ave Oakland, CA 94612
Free, gated parking available for volunteers!
St. Vincent de Paul of Alameda County's Visitation Center for Women and Children ensures that women and mothers and their children receive the support they need. The Visitation Center offers a safe environment during the day where women can take showers, wash their clothing, and get referrals to other programs. There is even a room set up entirely for children, with games, stuffed animals, and movies to enjoy!
We give these women and children many basic items that they would otherwise do without including: hygiene kits, baby items, and clothing. By helping us with check-in, registration, laundry assistant, giveaway, etc. for the Visitation Center, you make it easier for us to provide these services!
Volunteers will be asked to:

Assist with registration, check-ins
Help monitor the laundry machines
Use their organizational skills to help keep the storage area clean and organized
Help out with reading/arts and crafts days.
Help hand out hygiene kits, diapers, clothing, etc.
Please help us further our mission by making it easy to provide our services and create a safe environment for women and children.
You can volunteer for 2-4 hour shifts, Tuesday-Saturday between 9am-3pm. We are flexible in scheduling; this position is an on-going task, so we would love to have regular and any one time volunteers.

Mission Statement

St. Vincent de Paul of Alameda County is dedicated to serving the men, women and children of Alameda County.

Description

A non-profit, community-based organization, St. Vincent de Paul of Alameda County (SVdP) offers emergency and social safety net services to its neighbors, relying on a vast network of volunteers to carry out our mission. We operate a free dining room, thrift stores, an e-waste recycling program, men and women's drop-in centers, workforce and culinary training programs and much more. St. Vincent de Paul serves everyone regardless of origin, creed, or affiliation. Our staff and volunteers are a diverse and talented group, representing a wide range of experiences and perspectives.

St. Vincent de Paul was founded in 1833 by Frederic Ozanam, a 20-year-old student of the Sorbonne University in Paris, France. Similar groups began to form in Paris, then spread throughout France, and eventually throughout the world.

Volunteers, known as Vincentians, are united in an international society of charity by their spirit of poverty, humility, and sharing. St. Vincent de Paul of Alameda County was founded in 1938, and has been serving the community of Oakland ever since.
