Group Work
A volunteer facilitating group work and conversation

Work with our inspiring Adult Ed staff to empower Latinos and working class communities. Volunteers with all skills are needed to help facilitate Citizenship Exam Preparation class. The classes are in the evening and the cycles are approximately 8-9 weeks long and we are looking for someone who can commit to the whole cycle. Volunteers may be asked to assist with classroom set up, research for lesson plans, making copies, one-on-one tutoring, monitor quizzes, take attendance, outreach and registration help, perform mock interviews and other classroom assistance.

Please email with a description of your interests/hobbies so we can find the best fit for you. Retired teachers, education majors and those interested in teaching/education/adult literacy are encouraged to apply. We look forward to welcoming you to our community!

Description

Make the Road New York (MRNY) is a not-for-profit, grassroots organization serving low-income New Yorkers across the five broroughs of New York City and Long Island. We have a strong track record of successful, accessible, and culturally competent education and advocacy programs. Every year, we draw throusands of individuals annually to our storefront community centers in the immigrant-rich communities of Bushwick, Brooklyn; Jackson Heights, Queens; Port Richmond, Staten Island and Brentwood, Long Island. MRNY is the largest participatory immigrant organization in New York State with more than 10,000 members, 75 percent of whom are women.
