First Guides junior docents are teen volunteers 14 through 17 years old who enjoy sharing their enthusiasm about the natural world with visitors of all ages. First Guides 14 and 15 years old are accompanied by adult volunteer docent mentors. First Guides 16 and 17 team up to be an educational presence on the live animal exhibit trail and participate in a local environmental community action project. First Guides may also assist with River Otter Feeding programs, special events, and more. Training in 2019 is June 26, 27, 28 and July 1, with varied start times for the day-long training sessions. Funding for this program is generously supported by the North American Association for Environmental Education's ee360 initiative with grant support from the United States Environmental Protection Agency and other nonprofit partners.
