According to Forbes magazine, one of the most powerful ways for future managers to understand and experience the type of leadership needed for anyone who wants to be a corporate executives is to do volunteer work early in their careers. This is because the type of leadership at the top is akin to being a leader of volunteers, it is not about carrots and sticks but about persuasion and getting people to grasp and follow your vision.
YesLiberia can create that opportunity for you, virtually. Our organization desperately needs someone to coordinate our virtual volunteer - promptly welcoming volunteers, briefing volunteers to the organization, writing up volunteer project descriptions, assigning projects, and building an effective volunteer program
As a volunteer coordinator, you will work closely with the president of the organization to cultivate volunteers so that they feel appreciated and rewarded for their time. Of course, volunteering is its own reward but we want people understand how much we appreciate their work.
The volunteer coordinator can help solicit donations for t-shirts for volunteers, find creative rewards for volunteers who do the most difficult work, solicit volunteers from local colleges and universities.
All these activities are not required--this is an unpaid, volunteer position--but this is a suggestion of some of the ways that this position can be developed.
A successful volunteer coordinator will be able to use this experience to obtain a paying job as volunteer coordinator or in another form of employment but, most importantly, as Forbes Magazine puts it, you will be preparing yourself for positions as a future corporate executive. Description
Conviction created YesLiberia. Daily the needs of underprivileged are ignored. We ignore their struggles because it’s easier to deal with the more important things in our lives-- like climbing the corporate ladder and saving money so we don’t become indigent. And some of us ignore their challenges because they bring back unpleasant memories we seek to repress. But disregarding the plight of the underprivileged yields no resolution. Then certain things happen to remind us their struggles exist no matter how hard we try to pretend our needs surpass theirs.
Jallah was convicted by several of those things over a short period of time. The prostitution of children in Thailand reminded him of Liberia. The rape and war in Congo reminded him of Liberia. The genocide in Rwanda reminded him of Liberia. He remembered his underprivileged past--a past where he was seen as less than elite based on his tribal and economic status and where his education came as a gift from the United Methodist Church.
Reminded, he became convicted to act and YesLiberia was founded to educate and help underprivileged Liberians whose plight he intimately understood.
YesLiberia is a 501c3 charity organization recognized by the Internal Revenue Service since July 2009. All donations are tax-deductible to the full extent allowable by law. YesLiberia is also registered at four government agencies in Liberia.
