Dear Volunteers,

We are searching for ADULT and STUDENT volunteers for the 2020 Westchester Pancreatic Cancer Research Walk. The walk will take place on Sunday, April 26, 2020 at Rye Playland Park located at 1 Playland Parkway in Rye, NY. We are looking for volunteers to help with registration, parking, safety, cheering, musical entertainment, etc.

Report times along with important information will be emailed to registered volunteers the Friday before the walk. It will depend on the station to which volunteers are assigned. Assignments will be given out at check-in, as they are subject to change at any time. Generally, volunteers will report at 7:00am and will finish around 11:30am. It is extremely important that volunteers stay until the walk ends. 10 hours of community service hours are given regardless of the assignment. Students must drop off their service form when they check-in and pick it up signed when they leave. We will also provide a letter if students do not have a specific form to give us.

Volunteers must register in advance at www.lustgarten.org/westchesterwalk . Scroll down the page and click the VOLUNTEER button. If you lead a group, every member must register. If you wish to be assigned together as a group, please have each member list your school or organization in the School/Group box. If you know any others who are interested in volunteering, please forward them the link or have them contact me directly.

Please let me know if you have any questions. I look forward to hearing from you.

Thank you,
Karen Martino

Description

Tax ID #: 31-1611837

Pancreatic cancer is swift and silent, often undetected until it’s too late. It is estimated that more than 56,000 individuals will be diagnosed with the disease and 44,000 will pass away this year. The overall five-year survival rate for pancreatic cancer is just nine percent and most with advanced cancer die within a year. There are no early detection tests, no effective long-term treatments and, unless the cancer is surgically removed in its earliest stages, there is no cure. It is the fourth-leading cause of cancer deaths in the United States.

About the Lustgarten Foundation

The Lustgarten Foundation is America’s largest private funder of pancreatic cancer research. Based in Woodbury, New York, the Foundation supports research to find a cure for pancreatic cancer, facilitates dialogue within the medical and scientific community, and educates the public about the disease through awareness campaigns and fundraising events. Since its inception, the Foundation has directed $165 million to research and assembled the best scientific minds with the hope that one day, a cure can be found.
