We are accepting applications for Volunteers to serve in our Ronald McDonald Family Room located inside Presbyterian Hospital. Volunteers work in the Family Room greeting families, stocking food, maintaining the computer and laundry room sign in sheets and helping the families with anything they may need. The Family Room is open 7 days a week from 9-8pm IF we have Volunteer Coverage. Volunteers cover 2 or 3 hour shifts. MAJOR OBJECTIVE
As a Ronald McDonald Family Room Volunteer, you will manage a respite space for family members providing direct care to their child on any pediatric floor.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must have a friendly and approachable demeanor.
- Service oriented.
- Physical ability to withstand periods of walking, standing and bending.
- Must be able to communicate clearly in English; bilingual skills are helpful, but not required.
- Ability to recognize and maintain the principle of patient confidentiality.
- Effectively maintain patient confidentiality.
- Work effectively with others.
- Knowledge of Ronald McDonald House Charities of New Mexico programs and policies.
- Consistently demonstrate the values and behaviors of Ronald McDonald House Charities of New Mexico.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Greet families and sign them into Family Room
- Register new families and provide them with a tour of the facility.
- Verify wristbands.
- Monitor visitors during usage of the room.
- Maintain sign up logs for laundry room and computer use.
- Notify housekeeping to have sleeping rooms cleaned
- Keep kitchen stocked with food and drinks.
- Distribute laundry soap and fabric softener to families as needed.
- Maintain cleanliness and well-being of facility (sweep, vacuum and dust).
- Assist families with any questions and/or concerns.
VOLUNTEER RESTRICTIONS:
- No volunteer is to be involved in direct patient treatment or medical procedures.
ORIENTATION/TRAINING
The volunteer works within the guidelines of the Volunteer Services department as outlined in the Presbyterian Hospital Volunteer Handbook and as such is accountable to Presbyterian Volunteer Services department. Service specific departmental training will be provided by a designee of the requesting department (on the job training). Direct supervision will be provided by Ronald McDonald House Charities Volunteer Programs Manager in collaboration with the Presbyterian Hospital Volunteer Coordinator.
TIME AND PLACE
Standard shift schedule will be determined by volunteer and Volunteer Programs Manager.
Volunteer service in this position will take place at Presbyterian Hospital Ronald McDonald Family Room.
COMMITMENT
- A three-month commitment is required to volunteer with this program unless otherwise arranged with the Volunteer Manager.
- The volunteer’s commitment time begins on the date of their first shift, not during shadowing.
- After the second shadow date, the volunteer will meet with the Volunteer Manager to confirm commitment or to end their time at the House.
- Volunteer time will not exceed 15 hours per week unless otherwise arranged by staff.
ON-THE-JOB-SUPERVISION
This position will be supervised by RMHCNM Volunteer Programs Manager and the Volunteer Coordinator with Presbyterian Hospital.
