Job Responsibilities
Volunteer duties include:
- Attending to visitors who arrive for appointments in the early evening
- Responding to inquiries on the phone
- Transferring callers to the appropriate program
Time Commitment: Volunteer must be able to make a commitment to working the shift once a every two weeks.
Available Hours:
Monday - Friday 4-7PM
Candidate Requirements:
- Must be proficient with computers and basic online scheduling
- Ability to answer phone calls with professionalism and patience
- Knowledge of administrative and clerical practices
- Customer service skills
- Ability to work alone - this position requires mostly independent work
Training will be provided.
All positions require a background check and mandatory volunteer orientation.
3 Shifts

09:00 AM to 01:00 PM
M-F, flexible start and end times, but we ask for a 3–4-hour time commitment weekly.

12:45 PM to 04:45 PM
M-F options, flexible start and end times, we ask for a 3-4-hour time commitment weekly.

Tuesdays, Wednesdays.

Description
The House of Ruth Maryland was founded in May of 1977 by a coalition of women's organizations, religious groups, service providers, and elected officials to provide a safeohaven for victims of domestic violence and their children. In November of 1977, we opened Baltimore's first crisis shelter for these victims in a row house on North Calvert Street. Today the House of Ruth Maryland is recognized as one of the nation's most comprehensive domestic violence center and has a staff of more than ninety.
