SEEKING DYNAMIC VOLUNTEERS 55+ TO LEAD DISCUSSION GROUPS ON SUCCESSFUL AGING
Are you interested in "Touching Lives" of older adults? Touching Lives Over 55, a program of Journey's Way, currently is looking for energetic volunteers to lead peer discussion groups on health and wellness, life after retirement, and successful aging. For 12 years, more than 170 volunteers ages 55-90 have lead "Next Chapter" discussion groups with over 4,900 older adults across Philadelphia!
Volunteers must be at least 55 and enjoy working with people, have excellent listening skills, and provide their own transportation. Discussion groups meet weekly in senior community centers throughout Philadelphia. Peer Leaders learn new skills, meet new people, and enrich lives!
The next volunteer training starts on September 27 and runs through October 18 at Journey’s Way, 403 Rector Street in Roxborough. Description
Journey's Way, a program of Intercommunity Action Inc, a not for profit organization, provides resources and programs that enable older adults to improve their health and well being through lifelong learning, social and health opportunities, creative volunteer experiences, and a variety of counseling, information, and housing services. The Center offers independent adults age 55+ opportunities for life long learning and creativity, health promotion, volunteering, and socialization, information and assistance, housing counseling and nutrition and transportation. The Geriatric Counseling Service has experience therapistsprovide mental health services to older adults in their homes or other community sites. Pensdale Village, Pensdale Village II, and the Fairthorne provide affordable aprtments designed to meet the needs of the residents. A service coordinator assists with any needs or problems.
