Our Twin Pines Senior & Community Center, located inside beautiful Twin Pines Park, sees about 100 people a day! It is open to all adults, with no residency or membership requirements. We provide a safe, welcoming space for older adults to take advantage of free or low-cost services, exercising, socialization, making new friends, learning a new skill, or just sitting and reading the paper with a welcoming and friendly community.
The Twin Pines Senior & Community Center has a Federally-funded Lunch Program that provides nutritious and delicious meals to seniors who sometimes don't have the ability or the energy to cook for themselves, or simply want to get out of the house and meet people.
Opportunities
This is ideal for friendly, committed people who want to help make the center a warm, inclusive place for all visitors.
Welcome Desk
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Flexible 2-4 hour shifts
You would be the 'Navigators' and the first source of information. Duties include making reservations for lunch or transportation, answering the phone, directing people to the different scheduled activities, help with finding free or low-cost aid services, and some small office tasks.
The volunteer can have the option of sitting or standing. Fluency in speaking and writing in English is necessary (other languages a plus!). Some physical ability is required, such as walking unassisted, and ability to carry items up to 15lbs (not frequently).
Lunch Host
Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday, 11:15am-12:30pm
Seniors who have signed up for the daily meal are scheduled to come pick up a lunch bag from inside the Center and have to option eat-in or take-out. The Volunteer is in charge of checking the sign-up sheet to make sure the person is on the list and take in cash donations for the meal. The volunteer will need people skills, be welcoming and friendly to both regulars and new participants who might not be familiar with the process, give occasional gentle reminders, as well as educating new persons who might qualify for the program.
Basic math skills and problem-solving skills are needed. Fluency in a second language is a plus! (especially Mandarin/Cantonese, Spanish)
Lunch Preparation
Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday, 11:15am-12:30pm
Volunteers help carry out the Lunch Program mission by working in a team of 4 awesome volunteers to pack and serve the food (delivered by a caterer), as well as light clean up at the end (no heavy lifting necessary). All supplies are provided.
Participants have the option to take their meal to-go or dine-in at the facility
