WHO ARE WE? Our youth and adult tutors are passionate people from the DFW Metroplex who care about children and literacy! We care about more than ABCs. Our volunteers come from all manner of life and stations in life. We are: hard-working professionals, retirees, high school and college students, church, synagogue and mosque members, unaffiliated folks, singles, parents and grandparents, mother-daughter teams -- you name it. We are a melting pot of people of every race and creed who care deeply about our students and their families.
WHAT WILL I DO? We place you in a class of ten (or so) students, along with at least two adults, two Youth Leaders, and two Assistant Youth Leaders. Our students range from those who do not know their letters to fluent readers performing well above grade level but who need vocabulary enrichment, reading for relevance, and every reader type in between. Yes. You will have access to a LESSON PLAN for each day, along with a wide array of physical and online books and teaching materials.

WHAT DO WE DO?
We group students into five skill levels, one skill level per class. We often have 10-13 classes in any given VMSRA. You and your fellow class Leadership Team will decide how your class will be conducted, and who will deliver each section of each day.
Our refugee/immigrant students aged 6 through 12 are in the utmost need of tutoring and socializing. Many do not hear or speak English outside school.
Our students will be learning basic phonics, reading, writing, and reading comprehension. Mentoring your student and their family well-being is an added benefit of MRH.
