Mission Statement

As a unit of the National Wildlife Refuge System, Missisquoi NWR provides habitats for a variety of wildlife especially Migratory Birds. Our mission is to manage these public lands to benefit present and future generations of Americans.

Description

Missisquoi NWR is approximately 7000 acres in size and is located in the Northwest corner of Vermont. We are nestled along the eastern edge of Lake Champlain not far from the Canadian border. The Province of Quebec lies just north of the refuge and upstate New York is just to the west. The refuge is comprised of mainly wetlands. The wetlands are comprehensive comunities of woooded swamps, woodland bogs (one of the largest in New England), deep and shallow emergent marshes, extensive wild rice marshes, and is bisected by the Missisquoi River. The refuge boasts a new HQ building and Maintenance Shop constructed in 2005 and 2006 respectively. We offer 7 miles of hiking trails and offer in season, hunting, fishing, photography, wildlife observation, environmental education and interpretation.
