Civic Center

America SCORES Bay Area is a nonprofit out-of-school-time program focused on historically excluded and low-income youth that offers a "magic mix" of soccer, poetry, and community service activities in a youth development model that promotes our core values of Leadership, Teamwork, Good Sportsmanship, and Commitment.

SCORES empowers its "poet-athletes" to lead healthy lifestyles, be engaged and collaborative students, and have the confidence and character to make a difference in the world. We wholeheartedly believe all kids should experience joy and a sense of belonging and be well-prepared to command their future.

We believe in a Bay Area rich with meaningful opportunities for all children: teams and turf to play on, outlets for creative and physical expression, and pathways to develop their voices.

We appreciate your time and energy in bettering the lives of our youth and community!

We are looking for many different types of volunteers. Volunteering shifts can be made to work with your schedule! Volunteering is FUN!

Skilled video photographers and editors - We need help capturing content for impact storytelling. You should have your own equipment - video and audio. Will collaborate with staff to complete projects. Staff will coordinate schedules and perform scripting and interviewing. With your help, we will cover community events, profile remarkable individuals, and produce longer-form storytelling.

Game Day volunteers - This can include setup, breakdown, book zone, snacks, referees, etc. Game days are either Friday afternoons at SF Civic Center OR Saturdays at Crocker Amazon-SF; Oakland, San Rafael (Saturday times are usually morning to lunchtime - TBD).

Poetry Slams - We need volunteers, including judges, for our regional spring poetry events.

Soccer Coaches - We need head and assistant coaches for our Independent Football Club. Practice days vary. Games are usually on the weekends.

Event volunteers - We have fundraising events like our Corporate Cup Charity Soccer Tournament on Sat., June 1, 2024, at Beach Chalet Soccer Fields; Annual Poetry Event - Rising Voices (October); Friendship Cup Soccer Tournament (December), plus. We need help with setup, breakdown, registration, and information plus.

Have a skill you want to share? We need assistance in all areas, including marketing, social media, communications, Salesforce, etc.

Description

America SCORES Bay Area - Changing the Game - Innovative, Whole-Child Youth Development Program

Soccer: The world's most fluid, beautiful game is at the heart of SCORES. Teamwork is at the core.

Poetry: Unleash the voice! Creative expression, wordplay, and public speaking allow students to discover their distinct voices while building critical literacy skills and self-confidence.

Service Learning: SCORES students learn to contribute positively to their communities through a semester-long service-learning curriculum.

History: Founded in 2001, America SCORES Bay Area proudly serves over 3,000 youth at 100 low-income public schools in the San Francisco Bay Area. And we have plans to continue to grow by 20% per year. Our driving passion is to provide more support and opportunities to children who can benefit the most.

SCORES relies on a community of caring adults, partner organizations, and philanthropy to deliver ongoing, accessible programs.
