ORGANIZATION: San Diego County Library - El Cajon Library

Volunteer Citizenship Class Instructors are needed at various East County branches of the San Diego County Library, including El Cajon & La Mesa.

Responsibilities include:

  • Teach civics to prospective citizens using established curriculum, workbooks and materials.
  • Help students understand the citizenship application.
  • Conduct mock exams to prepare students for citizenship exam.
  • Maintain a positive and supportive learning environment.


Commitment:

  • 3 hours weekly (class and prep time)
  • 6 month commitment

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma
  • U.S. citizen
  • Fluent English speaker
  • Pass County's background check
  • Citizenship or ESL teaching experience preferred, but not required
  • Bilingual speakers (English/Spanish, English/Arabic) are encouraged to apply.

Description

Public libraries in California seek to engage the talents, skills and commitment of volunteers to serve the communities' information and literacy needs. Libraries offer a variety of skilled volunteer opportunities to make a meaningful contribution to library programs, operations, fundraising events and other community engagement functions. Skilled volunteers have opportunities to lead projects, work with teams of staff and volunteers, learn new skills, and have fun.
