2016 Los Angeles Times Festival of Books

The Festival of Books began in 1996 with a simple goal: Bring together the people who create books and the people who love to read them. After two years as a virtual event, we're happy to announce that this year's event will once again be live!

The 2022 Festival will be held on Saturday, April 22 and Sunday, April 23 at the University of Southern California and we would love to have you join us as a volunteer.

Over 150,000 people attend the Festival each year, which features more than a hundred ticketed author events, children’s storytelling, poetry readings, book signings and more than 400 exhibitor booths. The Festival’s success has been due in part to the generous participation of volunteers who welcomed attendees, assisted with registration, staffed author events, supervised book signings and much more.

Time Commitment: Volunteers sign up for one or more 3-4 hour shifts on one or both days.

Requirements:

  • The majority of volunteer activities require being on your feet for most of your shift.
  • Please wear comfortable shoes and khaki or beige pants or shorts.
  • Volunteers must be 18 years of age or older. We will accept volunteers aged 15-17 if they are volunteering alongside their parent or guardian. Volunteers cannot have children under the age of 15 with them during their shift.
  • The Los Angeles Times and USC will monitor community COVID-19 guidance and protocols as April approaches to ensure a safe and enjoyable event for all. The Festival will abide by LA City and County Guidelines as well as USC protocols. Some or all Volunteer positions may be subject to health and safety requirements which may include masking, vaccination status, and/or pre-event testing requirements.

Benefits: Volunteers will receive free parking, shuttle service from the parking lot and lunch. We will provide t-shirts for volunteers to wear and keep after the event.

*Please sign up as soon as possible as space fills up quickly and the final deadline for pre-registering as a volunteer is April 9, 2022.

After you express interest in this opportunity, we will send you further instructions on how to complete your volunteer registration.

Mission Statement

Dedicated to improving local communities and the lives of others.

Description

The Welsh Foundation is a local volunteer organization that organizes and participates in various community events throughout Southern California. The Foundation's primary goal is to promote social responsibility and encourage others to take part in their local communities.

The Welsh Foundation was created as a means to better our community and improve the lives of others. The idea behind the organization came, in part, from the founder's involvement with local non-profit and faith-based organizations. This involvement encouraged him to create an organization focused on community improvement and supporting educational initiatives.
