Girls Inc. is seeking Literacy Volunteers to assist in the delivery of elementary afterschool programs that helps K-3rd grade girls develop stronger reading and writing skills using Girls Inc.'s award-winning research-based curriculum.
A GIRLStart volunteer is professional, creative, flexible, fun, and able to communicate with both girls and adults. Above all, this person is a role model and mentor for young girls.
Volunteers will: help deliver and coordinate literacy enrichment activities, work with small groups and/or individuals to provide reading or writing assistance as needed, assist in whole group activities, and work closely with staff.
GIRLStart volunteers commit to volunteering at least once a week (M-F) from about 3:15 to 5:15pm until the end of the school semester or school year. Programs are held at elementary schools in San Leandro and Oakland.
Benefits: Volunteers will develop and enhance skills in reading and writing instruction, group facilitation, and mentoring.
