Be a mentor to a child who needs you. Opportunities exist throughout Orange County in our Community Based and School-Based Mentoring Programs, and just a few hours a month can change lives for the better, forever. Community mentoring program involves sharing activities with a child that you both enjoy. These should be free or low-cost activities, and can be fun and/or educational (wash the car, play a game, visit a museum, take a hike together, go grocery shopping to teach budgeting tips, cook a meal together, do a puzzle, play or watch a sports game, etc.) We like to see our volunteers and children meet 2-3 times per month, according to your schedule and availability. Our School-Based mentoring program involves meeting with a child right in their school for one hour each week. It is a chance to help a child succeed in school and in life, and to make them feel special where they are every day, at school. Read or do homework together, play games, have lunch, or just talk. It might be the break in the hectic week you need, or a chance to recapture the moments of childhood. All volunteers are provided with training, receive ongoing professional support and coaching, and are invited to participate in regular group activities and fun events hosted by our agency. Just 'being there' can make a 'BIG' difference to a child in need of adult friendship, guidance, and encouragement. Research confirms that children in our program are: 52% less likely to skip school 46% less likely to begin using illegal drugs 33% less likey to hit someone achieve higher academic success get along better with family and community members Contact us by phone, e-mail, or in-person for more information and to begin the application process.*Kindly repond with your telephone number and age listed in the comments section.
