Get Up and Go is a program that provides low cost transportation for seniors who no longer drive, thereby allowing them to get to medical and other appointments and to remain living in their own homes.

Community Need Addressed: Get Up & Go is a program that provides transportation for seniors who no longer drive, thereby allowing them to get to medical and other appointments and to remain living in their own homes later in life. The volunteer will assist with 2 things: 1) Recruit volunteer drivers who use their own cars to take isolated seniors where they need to go. 2) Provide outreach and marketing activities to seniors, service providers and adult children of elderly to inform them about our transportation services.

Job Description: 1) Volunteer will make outbound calls to service providers, handle a quarterly email and send out marketing materials as needed. 2) Volunteer will "person" a table/booth along with or in place of the Outreach Organizer at senior fairs in San Mateo County. 3) Volunteer will research and identify organizations and groups to help recruit drivers.

Qualifications/Skills Needed: Must enjoy speaking with people over the phone and in person. Volunteers need to be patient and have a positive attitude about working with seniors. Previous sales experience helpful. Previous experience with seniors is a plus.

Volunteers must attend a pre-service interview and complete a registration packet. Applicants must pass a screening process that includes a background check and reference check. The process can take one to two weeks.

Time Commitment Needed: 3-4 hours each week. Can be done from home if desired, as long as the volunteer is proficient with email and is able to drop off paperwork weekly.

Public Transportation is Located 1 Block Away

Orientation/Training Provided: Volunteer orientation and on-the-job training will be provided by program staff.
