Individuals who are at least 55 years old and meet low-income requirements may be eligible to volunteer with individuals with developmental disabilities and receive a tax-free stipend.

The Department of Developmental Services (DDS) is committed to providing leadership that results in quality services to the people of California and assures the opportunity for individuals with developmental disabilities to exercise their right to make choices.
Through a federal grant with the Corporation for National & Community Service, the Department of Developmental Services sponsors the Foster Grandparent/Senior Companion Program through nine sites throughout the state. Foster Grandparents and Senior Companions who are at least 55 years old and who meet income requirements may volunteer with individuals with developmental disabilities and receive a tax-free stipend.
