ORGANIZATION: Animal Experience International

Habitat loss, unsustainable hunting and the capture of wildlife for the illegal pet trade has created a wildlife crisis in Guatemala. This organization has come to the rescue of Guatemala's wildlife, with a vision of improving the chances of survival and conservation of endangered species and their habitat, as well as assisting in the rational management of natural resources. This wildlife conservation organization began as a wildlife rescue centre in northern Guatemala and has grown to also include environmental education, research, co-administration of protected areas, marine turtle conservation, ecotourism, reforestation and sustainable community development. It is now one of the largest and most complex rescue centres in the world. The central office, located near Guatemala City, is home to its Environmental Education Department and is where most of its administrative, fundraising and networking activities are carried out. It also serves as a temporary holding center for rescued animals on their way to the organizations other locations. Note: This placement requires a higher level of Spanish language ability.
