Help an adult learn to read, write and speak English! The Adult Reading Center has been helping adults improve their reading, writing and speaking skills since 1987 and currently has a waiting list of adults needing tutors. We need volunteers who are willing to volunteer 2 hours a week to help an eager student learn to read, write or learn to speak English. Improving literacy improves lives! At this time, we are in need of volunteers who would love to tutor adults in the Pearland community.

Our mission is to provide free instruction to adults with low English literacy skills.
Description
The Adult Reading Center, a nearly 30 year-old volunteer-based literacy provider, offers FREE adult basic education (ABE), English as a Second Language (ESL), citizenship classes, and computer instruction to anyone 18 years or older. Instruction is provided by classroom, small group, and one-on-one tutoring utilizing a phonics-based curriculum. Self-paced educational software is available for those students desiring to pursue additional reinforcement of classroom instruction.
