LatinitasMagazine.org is a non-profit webzine focused on informing and empowering Hispanic girls. Latinitas is the first digital magazine for U.S. Latina youth. Our bilingual magazine is by, for and about Latina youth. This is a success-themed and empowerment-focused magazine with content about culture, education, relationships, role models, youth issues, wellness, technology, and entertainment. It provides helpful information and resources to help young Latinas succeed. We seek editorial interns to join our editorial team to contribute content to Latinitas Magazine. Editorial interns write feature stories published in www.LatinitasMagazine.org and assist with proofreading, editing, and fact-checking copy for Latinitas. All articles are written for an audience of 11-14 or 15-18 year-old young Latinas.The articles should be age-appropriate and culturally-relevant. Latinitas edits stories for style, length, clarity and philosophical considerations. Intern Duties: provides fresh story ideas related to Latinitas participantes in editorial meetings; conducts research related to magazine features; assists in survey data collection coordinates and conducts interviews; files story leads; creates photo essays; takes photographs to compliment content conducts fact-checking projects; writes feature stories for magazine; interviews females for profiles; writes department stories; assists with copy editing of youth submissions; aids with editing of magazine content; responds to advice column questions researches potential advertisers for magazine; conducts market research; promotes magazine writing contests; promotes youth submissions for magazine; submits requests for press passes, copies of materials, and interviews; assists with coordinating photo shoots. The ideal intern will have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Interns should be organized, resourceful, creative and able to work independently. We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic and is willing to take advantage of this opportunity to develop their professional skills. Interns must have excellent writing skills. Experience with copy editing and journalism writing preferred. Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply. Virtual internships are available, as well in El Paso, TX and Austin, Texas.

Description
To encourage girls to build confidence and express themselves, we offer an innovative series of workshops, mentor projects, after-school clubs, and camps aimed at promoting media awareness and participation among Hispanic girls. Throughout these programs we offer fun and engaging lessons on media awareness, Latino culture, writing, editing, journalism, art, desktop publishing, film, radio, web design, and photography. Girls in our program build confidence and learn creative ways to express themselves. Our members an empowering online bilingual magazine by and for young women (www.LatinitasMagazine.org) focused on informing, entertaining, and inspiring young Latinas to grow into healthy, confident, and successful Latinas.
