About

Best Friends Animal Society is looking for volunteers, like you, who are passionate about animals, fundraising and event planning to join the leadership planning committee in your community for the trademark Strut Your Mutt event series.

Time will fly during this four to five month experience. Volunteers will work on a committee with other passionate and talented individuals guided by Best Friends Animal Society event staff.

Event Coordinator - 2-3 people to work together to plan the walk, festival activities/entertainment and some local logistics. Key planning responsibilities for the Event Coordinators include: planning a beer garden, securing donations (items for raffles), sourcing food trucks, creating an attendee parking plan, securing local supplies, planning the walk course, sourcing/scheduling stage entertainment, sourcing/planning for tent activities and organizing ideas for social media posts. Based on feedback from our volunteer teams, Best Friends events staff will now manage some of the more challenging logistics (rentals, layout, permitting, signage) and entertainment pieces (sourcing and scripting the MCs) with local support from the event coordinators, unless there is specific interest/experience from volunteer team members to take parts of these on. We’ll meet monthly as a full team to go over timelines, updates and questions.

Booth Sales & Marketing Coordinator - 1 person to solicit local businesses to participate in the event as an exhibitor, then engage them for marketing and fundraising once on board. Big goal this year is to diversify the type of exhibitors, so we don’t have all daycares, vet clinics and boarding businesses and include more people-oriented crafts and businesses as well. This role will also work closely with the national marketing representatives to help execute the local marketing strategy. This role also helps to coordinate marketing opportunities with local Event Ambassadors and the rest of the planning team. This revised position is returning to the local teams in 2018 (yay!) and we are securing 1-2 volunteers nationally that will help process applications, invoicing and payments on the back end, so the local focus can be on communications and marketing. We’ll meet monthly as a full team to go over timelines, updates and questions.

Volunteer Coordinator - 1 person to recruit, coordinate and manage setup and event day volunteers across all areas of the event. This position will work with the local planning committee and Best Friends staff to make sure that each area is adequately staffed with volunteers which includes staffing set up, tear down, and event day needs; monitor and maintain the schedule within the Best Friends volunteer management system as needed; and respond to volunteer inquiries and emails ahead of the event. We’ll meet monthly as a full team to go over timelines, updates and questions.

The Portland event is scheduled for Saturday, September 22nd.
