Mission Statement
The Boys’ Club of New York’s mission is to empower boys and young men by providing effective programs and a supportive community.
Description
The Boys’ Club of New York was founded in 1876 by E.H. Harriman with the goal of getting inner-city boys off the streets and into a place where they would be safe and engage in productive activity. The original clubhouse began with three boys, but slowly grew as BCNY’s reputation for excellence spread. Today, we serve nearly 4,000 boys in three locations - Harriman clubhouse on the Lower East Side, Gerry clubhouse in East Harlem, and Abbe clubhouse in Flushing, Queens. The programs we offer our boys have expanded in step, and we provide everything from academic and homework help, to a wide variety of sports, as well as special programs in the visual arts, drama, robotics, chess, life skills and many more. All help to advance our mission of encouraging boys to seek the highest standards of scholarship, moral development and physical achievement.
