Description

Tovrea Castle, the wedding cake shaped Castle that is located on 44 acres near Van Buren and Highway 202, was originally built by Alessio Carraro as a hotel that would be the centerpiece of a luxury housing development.

When the Depression ended this dream, the Castle was purchased by the prominent meatpacking baron, EA Tovrea, and his wife, Della.

The Castle would remain in the Tovrea family until the late 1980’s when the citizens of the City of Phoenix passed the first of 3 bond issues to purchase this much loved landmark.

This Jewel in the Sonoran Desert has been the source of both legend and mystery for several generations of Phoenicians, is a City of Phoenix Point of Pride and listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
