Holiday Cards for Clients project benefits People Incorporated Mental Health Services in multiple ways. First and most importantly it benefits our clients, people of all ages living with mental illness. The onset of winter is a very difficult time for people suffering with mental illness. Darker, shorter days and cold temperatures can be factors that cause increased difficulties. Depression often worsens during this time, and clients tend to become more isolated. Many People Incorporated clients have very little family support, making the holidays a difficult time. Homemade cards from volunteers in the community show clients that there are people, in addition to our staff, that care about them. The value of this project is certainly immeasurable and the one of a kind cards that volunteers create truly deliver the message of caring. Often, these are the only cards that our clients receive.

This project provides People Incorporated with an opportunity to connect with the community in a very easy way. The support of the community is truly integral to our mission. The more people that know about what People Incorporated does for clients, the greater the chance the stigma of mental illness will be eliminated.

Description

People Incorporated Mental Health Services is a Twin Cities-based nonprofit providing a spectrum of services through nearly 60 programs in the greater metro area. Supporting mental health and wellness in our community through collaboration and integration of care is our mission, and it means that we provide people with mental illness with the help they need to avoid hospitalization and institutionalization and live hopeful, meaningful lives in the community. We specialize in serving people who have both mental illness, and a secondary impediment such as: Deafness, chemical dependency, a developmental disability, homelessness, or seizure disorder.
