Director of Mentoring

Standup For Kids--DC is looking for a dedicated volunteer to coordinate its new mentoring program! StandUp for Kids is a national volunteer-driven organization dedicated to ending the cycle of youth homelessness. Founded in 1990, the organization has over 40 programs in cities around the country that offer a range of services such as street outreach, mentoring, runaway prevention, advocacy, transitional housing, and drop-in centers. The DC program is looking for a new Director of Mentoring who can help the chapter realize its goal of ending the cycle of youth homelessness in the District.

The Director of Mentoring for StandUp For Kids - DC will help the organization develop its new mentoring program for homeless youth. We are starting with a pilot program of between 5 and 10 kids, and may expand to include more kids next year.

Specific duties include but are not limited to:

  • Consistently checking in with mentors to see how they are working with their mentees and providing guidance on challenges they are facing.
  • Participate in the program by maintaining a mentor relationship with one child.
  • Updating information packets about the mentoring program to incorporate any lessons learned over the course of the mentoring program.
  • Working with the Director of Training to ensure that counselor training includes relevant skills for the mentoring program.
  • Participating in monthly leadership meetings.
  • Additional related duties as necessary.


Requirements:

The ideal candidate should be an enthusiastic team player able to work effectively with both leadership and volunteers. Candidate should have:

  • Strong leadership ability
  • Previous experience working with homeless or at-risk youth
  • Superior ability to plan and manage work with minimum direction
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills
  • Ability to volunteer 5 or more hours per week as needed
  • Strong sense of personal integrity
  • Sincere desire to help homeless and street kids
  • Must be able to pass criminal background investigation

Where will I have my next meal? When can I shower? Where will I sleep tonight? We assist homeless youth in tackling some of their everyday obstacles and work towards a life of safety, good health, and connections off the streets.
