Sunday Friends has developed a "learning economy" that makes it possible for parents and children from very low-income families to work together to build financial responsibility and financial literacy. We have done this through classes and one-on-one counseling and, even more importantly, through hands-on practice. A "learning economy" is similar to any other economy except that its primary purpose is education.
During our Sunday programs, family members earn tickets for their contributions to the community and their participation in learning activities. They save those tickets in interest-bearing bank accounts, then make decisions on how to "spend" their tickets to "buy" basic necessities.
We are looking for volunteers to:
- Assist with credit checking and credit counseling
- Teach classes for the parents and teens on basic, practical financial literacy topics
- Help operate the Sunday Friends Bank and assist families as they shop with their tickets.
If you would like to help very low-income families learn financial literacy, visit our website at www.sundayfriends.org. Then, complete the New Volunteer Orientation and submit your online application.
We will call you for a very short interview with 1-3 weeks and schedule your first day to volunteer.
Thanks from all of us at Sunday Friends!
