Set design for Act II of La sonnambula

Follow spot operators are needed at the West Bay Opera House for this season's productions. Three times a year (mid-October, mid- February and the end of May) West Bay Opera House produces full operas in the Lucie Stern Community Theatre in Palo Alto.

YOU DO NOT NEED TO HAVE PRIOR EXPERIENCE. WE WILL TRAIN YOU.

Follow spot operators are the unsung heroes of the theater world. Smoothly directing the audience's attention to wherever a cue sheet requires while commanding complete control of their instrument, follow spot operators are not just necessary to a performance but also have one of the best seats in the house, directly above the stage.

For each production, volunteers in this role will direct a spot light towards the stage at certain people or items as a cue sheet instructs, get a first hand look into opera's behind-the-scenes, and become a part of a huge, theatrical, and artistic community. Follow spot operators need to be willing to learn, able to pay attention and focus for long periods of time, able to sit down for long periods of time, and dedicated to attending all necessary rehearsals (6) and performances(4). Bringing your own pair of heavy gloves is recommended. Please note, if you have a fear of heights this opportunity may not be for you.
