STAR - St. Louis Avian Rescue is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization formed in 2002 to rescue and rehome companion birds of all sizes in the St. Louis area. We also strive to educate the public about proper bird care as well as the need for parrot rescue and responsible breeding practices.

STAR is a completely foster based rescue. We ask our volunteers to provide a healthy pellet based diet supplemented with fresh foods, daily interactions including some positive reinforcement training, regular updates on any foster birds in your care, and to be available for a handful of adoption events throughout the year. STAR will provide vet care, cages, and other equipment for all foster birds. In addition, STAR volunteers are always willing to help with training questions and advice for your foster bird or your own personal pets.

We currently have a need for volunteers with prior bird experience to foster birds of all sizes. In addition, we have a large number of small birds perfect for any animal lover willing to learn more about caring for companion parrots.

Please visit www.staravian.org/foster-application to apply today!

Criteria to foster birds include being over 18 yrs old, undergoing a background check and home visit. Legally, all fosters must be located on the Missouri side of the St Louis Area. Also, due to the toxicity dangers, the use of non-stick cookware, scented plug-ins/airfresheners ..etc. are not allowed while fostering our birds.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to improve and enrich the lives of parrots through rescue, rehabilitative fostering, adoption and education.

Description

St. Louis Avian Rescue is a foster based group that provides re-homing services for companion birds in a variety of forms of distress: from those recovered out of doors, those whose caretakers can no longer provide for them (due to illness or other changes), to neglected and actively abused birds.

These birds are taken in, provided with both acute and long term vetrinary care, and placed in foster homes where the complex emotional and social needs of companion birds can be met on an individual basis. In addition to providing a healthy family atmosphere, our fosters work to improve the adoptability of each bird - addressing behavioral issues and providing training and socialization.
