GiGi's Playhouse Atlanta Down Syndrome Awareness Center is looking for Certified Occupational Therapists interested in volunteering their time and expertise. Our kiddos need extra help with their fine motor skills, so we need you to help us create occupational therapy lesson plans that address fine motor and sensory skills and your expertise to lead a one hour class with our kiddos and their parents.

Volunteer opportunities could range from one-time events, to monthly, or to weekly commitments. We are grateful for what you are able to give. Our programs are typically done in group settings.

Our vision is to see the world where individuals with Down syndrome are accepted and embraced in their families, schools, and communities. Our mission is to increase positive awareness of Down syndrome through national campaigns, educational programs, and by empowering individuals with Down syndrome, their families and the community.

Description

GiGi's Playhouse is a not for profit Down syndrome awareness center. We offer activities, resources, educational programs, and support for individuals with Down syndrome, their families, and the community. With multiple locations, GiGi's Playhouse celebrates the lives and showcases the talents and potential of individuals with Down syndrome. Most importantly, GiGi's is a place to belong. Our activities are all volunteer run and offered at no charge to our families. Services that we will be providing are: Math and Literacy tutoring, Classes that are therapeutic in nature (including physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy) geared at teaching parents how to direct appropriate developmental play at home, and network and referral services. Our center is a branch of a very successful model of out Chicago, which began 9 years ago. We are 90% volunteer run.
